The 65-year old Oilweek magazine is no more. — Photo courtesy June Warren Publications It looks like Oilweek magazine published by June Warren Publications (JWN) ran out of gas last week. We went to renew our subscription and were informed that JWN has discontinued all their print magazines and our cheque would be returned. The company has migrated their content to their DOB (Daily Oil Bulletin) website. This appears to not only include the 65-year old Oilweek magazine, but all the company’s print magazines including Oil Sands Review and the Heavy Oil & Oil Sands Guidebook—though there was no mention of the fate of Alberta Construction magazine which is also published by JWN. Evidently, JWN’s Canadian Oilfield Service and Supply Directory (COSSD)—the “yellow pages” of the oil patch—will continue online and as a print edition. In the July issue of the magazine, company President and CEO Bill Whitelaw said, “JWN is pivoting one its flagship brands, Oilweek, to be part of a future in which energy dynamics are understood and discussed.” He also stated that, Oilweek would link its “long-standing petroleum audience to federal and provincial politicians, First Nations, communities, post-secondary campuses, mayors and councils of Canada’s largest cities, environmental organizations and energy associations.” For Oilweek, this pivot looks like it included the discontinuation of its life in print.
