I was unsure where should i put this topic, here or in microcontrollers, so mods please move it if i posted it in wrong place. I bought this unit from China, so it is clone. It was ok unit for given price. I than gave it to a friend who tried to repair some airbag problem on FIAT and failed. So he thought that maybe if he upgrade units software/firmware he may be able repair that airbag problem, but he was not. He did something worse. He flashed fw from MS 609 (a little better device) and bricked the MS 509.

Stupid from him and also stupid from Maxi Link software for letting him do that without checking if fw is for right device. Anyway, device uses Atmel AT89C51RD2 and we have. Metastock Pro 8 0 Rtd. bin file that should be flashed back.

There is a ftdi chip in MS 509 and we are able to erase/flash/blankcheck etc AT89C51RD2 with Atmel FLIP software. We can put AT89C51RD2 in 'flash' mode but after flashing it with FLIP it is still bricked.

Maxi Link software wont communicate with device in 'flash' mode. FLIP asks for file to be intel hex so i used bin2hex from atmel site and converted the bin file, and i got hex file that starts with:2xxxxxx. Flashed it, but stil blank screen I than used bin2hex tool from MCU 8051 IDE from Moravia Microsystems and i got hex that starts with:1xxxxxx.

Flashed, again nothing. Which file is correct? One that starts with:1 or:2?

Is it even possible to reflash that bin file with FLIP or not? What more info should i provide? Here is the MS 509 Thanks!

Just wanted something to check my moms SES light code. Turns out she had a a generic code P0304 which is a misfire on cylinder 4. Started by looking at and replacing the basics to start, plugs and wires. After further examination of the old ignition wires, I noticed a worn hole in the outter insulation of the cylinder 4 wire. Replaced the whole set along with new plugs and seems to have done the trick. Check engine light has not come back on since.

Hopefully it was really that easy. Time will tell. Either way, this product seems to do a good job a reading codes, and I love the live view feature. Only downfall so far is what many other reviewers have noted.my unit, as well as many others, does NOT work on battery power. Dont really need it til its plugged into the car anyway, so no big deal. It's OK, but it won't read my 2007 Suburban:- It'll read my 2001 Camaro ok, and I've read several other cars. But I just recently bought a used 2007 Suburban, and the MS509 will not connect to it.

It gets stuck on a screen that says 'CAN OBDII / Linking to vehicle'. I took it to AdvanceAuto and they were able to read it fine, and my neighbor was able to read it fine with his cheap $15 Autel 300. I have tried applying 2 update packs to it, and am up to level 3.0 of the software, and still won't work. I've spent enough time fiddling with it, and I guess I'll just buy the cheap MS300 just to have something that will read my Suburban (very disappointing, Autel MS509!) Attaching pictures of the message I'm getting, and the version of software/etc I'm using.

I normally do not like giving one star ratings, but this item deserves it for the following reasons: Upon receipt item did not have a battery even though the box clearly stated it contains a nine-volt? Meter was not in any sort of wrap/bag etc. Cables looked to have been resealed in the plastic bags.

The software would not recognize the unit when hooked up though to usb. The burn date for the software on this scanner is 9/11/2008, Version 2.03.

Obviously this is an older stock, used unit, refurbished and sent to me. I had a Cen-Tech I had taken back, due to display problems, to Harbor Freight that is the identical same thing as this scanner. It came in a small bubble bag, the leads looked new and sealed in the bag, it had a new nine-volt, the software recognized it when hooked to the usb. The burn date for the software on this scanner is 7/25/12, Version 2.13.
